Last week while checking how my visitors were responding to one of my blog post on a bald head, I noticed that 2.1% of them came to the page with how to keep a bald head smooth without shaving question in mind. I was like “are you serious? How on earth is this possible? I left thinking it was a joke.

Early yesterday the number of people seeking for answers to this same question increased by 1%, then I knew this time around, it’s more serious. So I decided to give it a shot and see what I can learn and share about it.

I agree with you that: shaving bald head over and over again can be tiring, boring and stressful, if it’s not your hobby.

Well, it turns out, you can now use other techniques to make your bald head smooth.

And in today’s post am going to show you 4 ways to keep a bald smooth without shaving.

But here is the thing:

After listing and explaining how it works, I don’t recommend any of the method listed down here. Also, remember that none of this method removes all hair permanently. And if you think am going to mention the method that involves using hair removal cream or gel, then you got only one. So stay in touch.

How To Keep Bald Head Smooth Without Shaving

I’ve always wondered if there’s something like this that works, but today I can say YES, it works but not 100%. Now let’s dive into it:

1. Sugaring

Sugaring hair removal techniques is a rock age method of removing hair with natural gel or paste made from sugar/salt, lemon juice, honey, water, and some essential oils. This technique involves removing the hair follicle from its roots. Remember this isn’t permanent, so hair regrows within 4-6 weeks, depending on how perfect hair removal was performed.

How is it done?

The gel or paste is applied in the direction where hair grows and removed in the opposite direction with cloths or any smooth textile material, but a muslin strip is recommended.

How long Does Hair Have To Be For Sugaring?

If you are using paste, the hair should be at least 1/16 inch long which takes 7 days to grow after a close shave. While if you want to use gel, the hair should be at least ¼ inch, which takes 3-4 days after a close shave.

Can Sugaring Remove Hair Permanently?

No, it only removes hair for some time, at least 2 weeks, in other words, it is semi-permanent.

Is Sugaring Less Painful Than Waxing?

Yes, sugaring is less painful when compared to waxing, because wax sticks to the skin cell, which hurts when removing because most times it grabs skin cells along, while sugaring takes hair in the direction of hair growth. The pain is less since it’s following hair back to back.

Is sugaring better than waxing?

Sugaring is better than waxing because a large amount of hair can be removed at once, unlike waxing where you remove little by little.

Sugaring hair removal disadvantages

  • It’s very difficult to find an expert who can do this perfectly in so many countries because it is an ancient technique. But you can still find some tutorials online that teach you how to do it yourself perfectly.
  • Frequent removal of hair with sugaring can cause damage to the hair follicle, which will make hair stop growing permanently in some areas of the head.
  • Improper application of this technique can lead to infection even disease. So be highly careful with the tools you handle before and after hair sugaring.

Total Costs

If you do it yourself:

To get all the necessary kits, you will have to spend at least $60.

If you want an expert to it:

It will cost around $90+, calculate for 3 times and tell me the total sum. I believe you can see for yourself when compared with razor shaving.

2. Depilatories (Hair remover products)

Depilatory techniques involve using cream, gel, spray or lotion that dissolves hair with the aid of chemical.

But is this a better option to razor shaving? Let’s see.

This is very similar to shaving because it only melts hair that is visible and sometimes not all the hair visible do melt. Two good things about depilatories is that; it is fairly cheap and it’s next to shaving as hair removed area can last up to 3 days before it regrows.

How To Use Depilatories On Bald Head

Make sure you do testing on any part of your body to see how it reacts before using it on your whole head.

Step 1: 3-4 days after bald shave, wash your head clean. Ensure its oil and lotion-free.

Step 2: Put on your gloves and dab thick portion of the cream, lotion or spray on your hair, leave it for the recommended time. Then wash it all out.

Does Depilatory Cream Remove Hair Permanently?

No, they aren’t permanent hair remover, they only dissolve the hair which will later grow back days later.

Which Product Is Best For Hair Removal?

I haven’t used it on myself or my clients, but after researching for the best hair remover (depilatories), these are the list I found.

  1. Veet Gel Hair Remover Cream with Essential Oils.
  2. Gigi Hair Removal Lotion.
  3. Veet Gel Hair Remover Cream, Sensitive Formula.

Are depilatories safe?

They are safe to use, if well used. So far so good, no bad report has been noticed since I knew about it.

Disadvantages of Depilatotries.

  • There are lots of fake products out there claiming to be a depilatory product.
  • Sometimes not all the hair visible are removed at once, you may need to repeat over and over again.
  • Some smell bad and sometimes irritating.

Prices Of Depilatotries

Depilatories ranges at different prices at different stores, you can get any of them for like $7-$50 on amazon.

3. Waxing

There are two major types of wax- soft and hard. It’s as simple as applying warm wax, covering it with a strip of gauze and remove. This can be a cool way to make bald head smooth without shaving for long (like 2 weeks or more).

This one is far more time consuming as you will have to warm wax and apply it parts by part. The thing here is that you won’t get a clean and smooth head as expected.

4. Using Smooth Sandpaper

If you have soft skin, please don’t even think about this method, because you will end up getting what you won’t like. For those who have hard skin, just buy smooth sandpaper, clean your head dry, then rub the sandpaper gently all over your head starting from anywhere.

Make sure you are done with one area of the head before moving to another for a smoother and clean shave.

Final Thoughts On How To Keep Bald Head Smooth Without Shaving

Come to think of it:

Like I said earlier, I don’t recommend any of the above-mentioned methods because nothing can be compared to shaving bald head with a razor; it’s smoother, cheaper and healthier. Even though a lot of people say its time consuming because of their schedule.

But I don’t see anything time consuming with spending 5 minutes on your head immediately after a shower. What you need to get started are good razor and proper shaving skill to avoid razor burn. If you can’t shave your head in the morning, while not do it at night after work.

For all-day busy dudes:

Get a brighter light or bulb fix it in your bathroom and you are good to shave your head at night. I think that’s all on how to keep bald head smooth without shaving. If there is something left or you want to add to what we have here so far, do let us know through the comment section below.
