Share With Friends and Family

Sometimes mistakes are inevitable, but when repeated multiple times-  it becomes foolishness. This post will explain the five costly 3C curly hair care mistakes most ladies make and the possible implications.

Curly hair may be cute and all, but what isn’t usually very cute is caring for it. If you could dig so deep to understand that you specifically possess the unique 3C hair, you’ll also take extra measures to care for it.

However, 3C curls are different from other hair types. Sometimes, the general hair care tips might not be practical for your hair.

If you want your hair soft, bouncy, and free of frizz, you need to go the extra mile to care for it.

Here, I’ll outline some of the 3C curling hair mistakes preventing your hair from looking good and growing at the same time.

What is 3C Curly Hair?

If you care about hair, you should know that they are classified into four broad types and many different subtypes.

Type 1 hair comes to your mind when you first think about hairs: the straight type. Type 2 hairs are the wavy type, type 3 is the curly type, and type 4 is the coily type.

As you might have guessed, each type also has subtypes for more accurate descriptions. Talking about type 3s, there’s type 3A, 3B, and 3C.

The A, B, or C suffix added to the end of the numbers indicate the size of the curls. While type 3As have the biggest curls, type 3Cs tend to have the smallest.

Consequentially, type 3C hair type has the tightest curl pattern of the three, making it one of the most challenging to care for.

This indicates that the general hair care tips mightn’t be sufficient for someone with a 3C curl. Here, we’ll be looking at some mistakes you might be making while caring for a 3C curling hair.

3C Hair Curly Hair Care Mistakes You Should Avoid

Before I start, I want you to understand that these hair care habits work very and pretty fine for some people. But in a general overview of 3C Curly hair, these below-mentioned hair care aren’t healthy for your hair.

So what I am saying? If you’re doing any of these and it’s working very well for you without sacrificing your hair growth and integrity, then you’re cool to continue. But in the meantime, make sure to stick around and read till the end.

So, the first costly mistake here on my list is;

1. Blow-drying Your Hair

There are a lot of reasons why you should restrain yourself from blow-drying your 3C curls.

First off, 3C hair isn’t as strong as other hair types. Due to the uneven distribution of moisture throughout the hair, 3C curly hair takes less time to dry than other hair types.

Using a blow-dryer on your 3C curls can permanently damage the natural curl patterns. It achieves this by destroying the amino acids responsible for creating keratin instrumental in creating the curls. When these amino acids are damaged, they can’t be recreated.

While some hair types can use some drying, it’s certainly not your 3C curling hair.

To make things even better, you can add some oils or moisturizers to help your hair retain moisture even better.

2. Detangling with a Brush

After a shower that involves a thorough hair wash, you might want to run a brush through your hair to disentangle the entanglements.

Million-dollar advice? Don’t!

While it seems like a brush can help you work out the knots in your hair, making it spotless and bouncy, it does the exact opposite.

To detangle the knots on your 3C curling hair, you can use a wide-tooth comb. Even with this, you should go gentle on the hair, taking your time to smoothen the hair carefully.

Also, only attempt to detangle your hair when conditioning it in the shower. After rinsing your hair, you shouldn’t detangle your hair anymore, even if you’re only using your fingers.

3. Too much Cleansing

Remember how blow-drying your hair kills it?

Well, there’s something else that can potentially kill your gorgeous 3C curls. And no, this one isn’t unnecessary heat or forceful disentanglement; it’s over-cleansing your hair!

Your natural 3C curls maintain their state due to the help of the natural oils secreted by the sebaceous gland. This oil helps in keeping your hair shiny and preserves the natural curls that everyone admires.

However, you can only secrete so much of this invaluable oil. When you cleanse your hair a little too frequently, you may wash away a good part of these oils, forcing the hair to dry out.

You should already know that when your hair dries out, it loses the natural shine and starts to break. These qualities aren’t what people admire about your 3C curls.

To retain the qualities that make your 3C curls unique, you need to adopt a regular but less frequent cleansing schedule. Cleansing your hair once a week isn’t bad, and there is no reason why it should be more frequent.

4. Neglecting Your Hair at Night

It’s easy to care for your hair all day and end up paying zero attention to it when you go to sleep. At least you can’t pull at your hair when you’re asleep, can you?

Without mincing words, this is one of the biggest hair care mistakes you are probably making.

Using cotton fabric on your bed is bad for your delicate hair. Also, you should check to confirm if your pillow isn’t cotton, as that’s where your hair rests for most of the night.

If you can’t get your hands on a silky sheet just yet, you can simply wrap a silk scarf around your hair to protect it from fabric.

Once you incorporate this simple tip into your hair care strategy, you won’t have to worry about dressing messy hair every morning.

5. Touching/ Too Much Manipulation

You just finished styling your hair, and your curls line it up to create the beautiful pattern that makes your friends jealous. Then, someone asked to touch your hair.

Do you have a choice? The pride of being complimented for having beautiful hair, coupled with the act of trying to be nice, will make saying ‘no’ practically impossible.

However, you have to learn to say no, if you have 3C curls. With this kind of hair, touching it is an abomination.
While the urge to touch it might be irresistible, the frizz that it causes is worse; believe me.

Conclusion

3C curling hair is about the cutest hair type, only if you properly care for it.

With the abundance of hair care tips on the internet, you may have just too much information to make meaningful decisions.

If that’s the case, you don’t need more hair care tips. Sometimes, all you need is just what you’re doing wrong and how you can correct it.

Luckily, that’s what I’ve compiled for you here. Stop making the 3C curly hair care mistakes outlined above, and you’ll be grateful that you read this.
